I have entered 2 competitions in the past to keep up my animation skills. At the time I was on summer break from University waiting to return to and start my 3rd and final year.....I believe entering these competitions was a good experience as it gave me a deadline to hit as well as learning more about character animation. It also meant that reurning to university I wouldnt need freshing up on my animation skills but rather to further them. Anyway heres what I got:
The 1st piece all though being a big learning curve was very enjoyable piece to do. I believe it shows some progress compare to my earlier work and expresses the loss of her husband to a believeable level.
The 2nd piece then was a total step up.....I decided I wanted to use different rigs and for some reason Max doesn't seem to have the amount of rigs on the net that I could find for Maya........As the 3rd year in Uni was solely going to be learning and using Maya instead of max which I had been learning for the last 2 years I came to a decision. For my 2nd 11 second club entry I was going to do this in maya.
Looking back it was a big step to take as I would be learning independently how to use maya aswell as having 2 completely different and new rigs to work with and hitting a deadline. Along with those factors this piece involved 2 characters acting so thats more of a workload its self compared to the last entry. However I can say I managed to get it done and for me I was very pleased with the outcome. The results meant that I started the 3rd year having known how to use Maya rather than learning, so giving me more time to concentrate on improving my animation.
